COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides a comprehensive, clinically focused overview of neurotrophic keratitis. It emphasizes clinical reasoning, understanding the pathophysiology of corneal nerve damage, and identifying prognostic factors. Participants will explore mild to severe presentations, review evidence-based medical and surgical management options, and learn how to prevent long-term complications. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to manage neurotrophic keratitis across all stages to optimize both visual and anatomical outcomes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Understand the pathophysiology of neurotrophic keratitis, including the role of trigeminal nerve dysfunction, epithelial breakdown, tear film instability, and stromal changes.
• Recognize the clinical spectrum of neurotrophic keratitis and its severity stages
• Identify key steps in the acute assessment and management of neurotrophic keratitis.
• Review strategies for chronic management.
• Understand long-term complications and their impact on visual prognosis.
